Ghosting
Ghosting is ending things by simply stopping — no reply, no explanation, a conversation that never continues. There’s no emoji for it; 👻 is Halloween. So here is a person dissolving from the waist down, which is what it feels like.

What it actually means
Ghosting is the breakup nobody announces. The replies get slower, then stop. The read receipt stays on Read. The person is fine, alive, posting — just gone, for you. It started as dating slang around 2015 and now covers friends, recruiters, landlords and whole group chats. What makes it sting is the asymmetry: they made a decision and you got the silence, so you end up doing both halves of the conversation in your head.
The vocabulary has grown around it, because one word wasn’t enough for all the ways people leave. Soft ghosting: a thumbs-up reaction and never a reply. Breadcrumbing: just enough contact to keep you on the hook. Orbiting: gone from your messages, still first to view your story. Zombieing: back from the dead, four months later, with “hey stranger”. Why there’s no emoji for it
People ask Google, in those words, whether there is an emoji for being ghosted. There isn’t. The closest thing has a sheet and a party trick.
A cartoon in a sheet with its tongue out. Means Halloween, Snapchat, or “I’m dead” from laughing. Send it about your ex and you sound delighted.
Closest in spirit — invisible, withdrawn — but it reads as “I’d like to disappear”, not “someone disappeared on me”.

Is there an emoji for being ghosted?
No. The 👻 ghost emoji means Halloween, Snapchat or “I’m dead” from laughing, and Unicode has nothing for being left on Read. Vigil’s ghosting icon — a person dissolving from the waist down — is free as a Slack or Discord emoji, an iMessage or WhatsApp sticker, or an SVG.
What does 👻 mean in texting?
Usually spooky, playful, or a Snapchat reference; in some chats it’s flirty. It almost never means someone stopped replying, which is why sending it about being ghosted reads as cheerful.
What’s the difference between ghosting and breadcrumbing?
Ghosting is a full stop: all contact ends without explanation. Breadcrumbing is a comma: occasional likes, a “miss you”, a plan that never gets a date — just enough to keep you around. Vigil has an icon for each.
Is ghosting ever OK?
When the alternative is unsafe, yes. When the alternative is a twelve-word text, no.
